About Being in Costa Rica

The Pacific Coast of Costa Rica offers a prana-filled environment for deepening your experience of yoga. In such biodiverse energy fields, we believe that your education and training to teach yoga will go far beyond the curriculum.

As a program participant, you will be staying in Nosara, a beach village that has become a magnet for international cultures. Your accommodations are within a ten-minute walk to the beaches and the quiet gardens of the Institute grounds.

Along your walk down jungle pathways to our Institute yoga pavilions, you will pass through undisturbed habitat, which is home to exotic animals such as howler monkeys, quadamundies, iguanas; birds, such as green parrots, hawks, toucans, cuckoos and Mott Motts; and flowering trees and vines which shade an amazing array of lush ground botanicals. During your stay, you can make a pilgrimage to Ostional Wildlife Refuge to witness the miracle of flotillas of Green Ridley Sea Turtles coming up on the beach to lay their eggs, or to your choice of waterfalls, hot springs, rain forests or active volcanoes. In such biodiverse energy fields, we believe that your education and training to teach yoga will go far beyond the curriculum.

Location

Costa Rica is located in Central America, approximately 8 degrees above the equator. The country is only as big as Massachusetts. The population of the entire country is that of Los Angeles, California.

It is one of the smallest countries in Central America, with less than 20,000 square miles, and yet there are so many distinct regions, that vary geophysically and hence climatically. There are coastal sea level areas that are tropical and beachy and also mountainous regions that are actually cold. The highest mountainous elevations are 12,000 feet.

The Costa Rican people as a whole are extremely friendly. They are mostly European in ancestry. In the rural areas their lifestyle is simple and relaxed with lots of time for family and friends. Their government is democratic and they do not maintain any armed forces. They abolished their army in 1945.

The abundance of plant life and animal life outside the cities is breathtaking and inspiring. It is truly an affirmation to life itself to explore and be with Nature as it appears in this tiny garden of eden.

You do require a valid passport to enter Costa Rica. Please confirm this with your airline or travel agent. New regulations for US citizens have been introduced by the US Government. Please check your passport expiration date, and if it is within three months of your travel date you will have to renew your passport.
