General Background in the Specialty Area 5 Hours

  • Yoga teacher relationship with health care professionals
  • Psychological considerations during pregnancy
  • Differentiate between high risk and non-high risk pregnancy

Experiential Learning 30 Hours

  • Taking on the role of a prenatal mama
  • Knowledge of 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester
  • Alignment with asana for the expectant mother
  • Relaxation and stress management techniques
  • Choosing music to create energetic shifts

Teaching Methodology 15 Hours

  • Using your knowledge to empower yourself and your students

Anatomy & Physiology 10 Hours

  • Bones and muscles of the pelvic floor
  • Trimester changes in mama and baby; duration of pregnancy- gestation
  • Overview of complications- including miscarriage, premature labor, hypertension, preeclampsia and body mechanics
  • Chakra system and its connection to the endocrine system
  • Physical ailments commonly found in pregnancy: rectus diastasis, round ligament pain, sciatica, sacroiliac dysfunction and how yoga can help these issues
  • Fetal positioning and asana's that are beneficial for breech presentation
  • Childbirth education: including the stages of labor and related hormonal changes

Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics 5 Hours

  • Fostering a non-competitive, inclusive class atmosphere no matter what birthing plan the mama has in mind
  • Incorporating yoga philosophy in prenatal/postnatal-appropriate ways
  • Teaching as a way to prepare for labor/delivery and motherhood
  • Contemplation and journaling

Practice Teach and Observation 25 Hours

  • Observing, assisting and teaching
  • Create and teach one 60 minute prenatal yoga class while keeping your authentic voice
  • Practice teach in small groups and in partners
  • Give and receive feedback
